Model Description Page for 2007 - 2013 1500 Series
and 2007-14 2500/3500HD and SUVs

The photo to the right shows one popular method of breaking into your 2007 - 2013 GM truck or SUV.

The thief puts a screwdriver onto the face of the lock and smashes the lock straight into the door! It's fast, easy and quiet, making this a favorite among thieves. It is commonly known as punching the lock. >

Another popular method is to pry in at the end of the handle, near the lock to get at the rods inside the door. This is also very easy to do since the seam between the handle and door metal is very weak.

What's the solution?

Notice that the lock has been
punched into the door!

< The top photo to the left shows the inside of a door without a Jimmi' Jammer® plate installed. (The photo is taken at an angle from below the handle.)

Toward the lower right corner, you can see the red lock pawl rod holder, and the lock rod attached to it. The red area points to a vulnerable area where the thief pushes a screwdriver into the door to get at the lock rod.

Also notice that the lock is held in the handle with just plastic surrounding it. That is what makes this assembly vulnerable to a thief. When they smash the lock in, the plastic breaks when the lock retaining clip is forced inward. With the Jimmi' Jammer® plate installed, the retaining clip is butted up to the plate, relieving the plastic from the impact.

< The bottom photo to the left shows a Jimmi' Jammer® plate mounted on a 2007 GM door handle. The plate surrounds the lock cylinder, (near the center of the photo,) reinforcing the plastic, holding the lock in place, and blocking access to the lock rods inside the door.

The bend along the top edge of the plate is designed to help block a slim jim from grabbing the lock pawl/rod at the top. The bend along the bottom stiffens the plate adding strength.

If you look carefully at the left edge of the Jimmi Jammer® plate, the yellow arrow points to a new addition to our kit. This set screw goes through our plate and hits the door jamb metal. This arrangement acts as a second anchor point for the plate, adding even more strength.

What about passenger side front doors, and rear doors that don't have a lock cylinder on them?

Passenger side front door

The photo to the right shows the inside of a passenger side front door without the Jimmi' Jammer® plate installed.

Toward the right center of the picture, you can see a hole in the door metal where a lock would be if it were present. Even though there is no lock installed, there are other lock rods and the door latch mechanism below the handle in the door jamb. For obvious reasons, we won't further describe how they get in, but suffice it to say, they can and do!

Rear doors

On rear doors of a four door truck, or SUV, the door metal is filled in behind the handle. Therefore, we don't believe a plate is required on the rear doors for these vehicles. (Not so on most other model years.)
